Felipe Pena was recently hospitalized with a bacterial infection, but has fortunately now been discharged after spending a week under doctor’s care. Somewhat luckily, Pena has not had any big matches or tournaments scheduled recently so he hasn’t had to withdraw from anything that he had planned. The last time that he was seen competing was when he defeated Nicky Rodriguez by decision in the main event of a recent Who’s Number One card.
That match only materialised after Gordon Ryan was forced to withdraw from the latest instalment of his rivalry with Pena, the fourth match between the pair. Pena has achieved more than the majority of grapplers ever will and is both an ADCC world champion and a multiple-time IBJJF world champion. As it stands, he’s working towards making a transition to professional MMA as there isn’t much left for him to do in the grappling world. He’s not making the move just yet however, as he still has that unfinished business with Ryan that he wants to handle first.
Felipe Pena announced the news that he was hospitalized with a bacterial infection and was released after a week in a recent post to his official Instagram account. The original statement was made in Portuguese, but the translation of it can be found below:
“After a week hospitalized for a bacterial infection I caught in the USA during my seminar tour I finally got discharged today! I’d like to thank especially Dr. Rogerio Tavares, Dr. Rodrigo Montalvo, and the whole Biocor D’Or team for their special attention and care, you were impeccable. Thanks to my family, my girlfriend for the care and everyone who was sending messages. Everything is fine. I’m home and soon back to the tatames. Health is everything, any symptom look at it. The sooner you treat and treat it better”
