Amit Elor is the youngest US Olympic champion ever and she recently opened up about the very first time that she met her partner, Mica Galvao. The two young stars are a proper power couple in the world of grappling, as they are both operating at the very highest level of their respective sports. Elor has been one of the best wrestlers on the planet for quite some time now, having won the wrestling world championship at under 72kg in both 2022 and 2023. This led directly in to her winning a gold medal in the under 68kg division at the 2024 Olympic games in Paris, making history in the process.
While Elor has had incredible success in her chosen grappling format, she has plenty of experience in BJJ as well. Amit Elor currently a BJJ purple belt and often has the opportunity to train with some of the best in the sport thanks to her relationship with Mica Galvao. Although Galvao narrowly missed out on setting a similar record to Elor and becoming the youngest ADCC world champion at ADCC 2022, he did finish with a silver medal back then. He did earn the title he’d been looking for at ADCC 2024 though, where he became the second person to win a super grand slam after an incredible year.
Amit Elor actually did a short interview with FloGrappling backstage at ADCC 2024 and naturally the topic of her relationship with Mica Galvao came up. She started out by explaining what it was like when they first met:
“Honestly, and this is gonna sound funny, but my first thought when I met Mica (Galvao) was like ‘I bet I can beat him!’ I got like so competitive because at that time I was competing with boys, but very quickly I switched off and had more opportunities with girls.”
Although they started out as training partners, Elor also explained how their relationship eventually progressed:
“So then I kinda like ghosted him a little bit on Instagram for a while. Then fast-forward to COVID and we’re all kind’ve on our phones a lot, and so we started talking a lot. He was inviting me for a while to come train Jiu-Jitsu at his gym in Manaus. I went, I visited, and we kinda got to know each other more and it was really fun. I also fell in love with Manaus, and Brazil in general.”
FloWrestling shared the interview with Amit Elor where she details the first time that she met Mica Galvao in a recent post to their official Instagram account:
