Nicky Ryan has just become the first person to speak openly about the recent situation involving top Jiu-Jitsu competitor Izaak Michell, claiming that he is now facing multiple allegations of sexual assault from different women. The exact details surrounding Michell’s sudden departure from Kingsway Jiu-Jitsu have been unclear until now, as the team have chosen not to elaborate on it publicly. The team’s announcement made it at least seem somewhat serious, but Craig Jones was the first to hint at the reason why he was expelled. Jones has not been explicit though, which left plenty of room for speculation among fans.
Then the topic came up on a recent episode of The Simple Man Podcast, and Ryan revealed everything he knows:
“He got kicked out of Kingsway [Jiu-Jitsu]. Pretty much just because I believe like multiple different women went to the police claiming he sexually assaulted them.”
Nicky Ryan also explained why Izaak Michell has not yet had to answer to these sexual assault allegations:
“Now I believe he went to Thailand for [ADCC] Trials and Trials were in Thailand just in the nick of time… It seems like he might be trying to hide out there, but I don’t know.”
Michell actually won the under 77kg division at the ADCC Asia & Oceania Trials 2025, which is the tournament that Ryan is referring to. It took just place just a matter of weeks ago but according to Ryan’s co-host Damian Anderson, Michell might not be there for that much longer:
“Well the thing is, I don’t think he could stay out there for too long because it’s like, I think it’s a visitors thing for like… you could probably only stay there for like a month or something.”
Winning that tournament obviously would normally have secured Michell an invite to ADCC 2026 but as Ethan Crelinsten pointed out, that doesn’t seem likely any more:
”I guess he’s not doing ADCC.”
The final member of The Simple Man Podcast team, Nicky Rodriguez, gave his take on the news too and he raised a question that not many people have considered:
”I don’t know if I’m wrong for saying this but he’s always been a bit of a dog or a ladies man or whatever, but I wonder if the supplements he was on like changed his mind a little bit… He got pretty sauced up. I was like, I just wonder if that made it [uncontrollable], he can’t control himself now.”
