Nate Diaz has just opened up about the potential for a trilogy match with his old rival Conor Mcgregor and according to him, ‘it’s inevitable’. He revealed his thoughts on the future of their rivalry after attending a press-conference for his upcoming boxing match against Jake Paul. While he’s only been able to pursue that big-money move to professional boxing because he became a free agent, Diaz is apparently still open to signing a new UFC contract in the future and returning to the world’s biggest MMA promotion:
“That’s an option, the UFC. I would like to (return to the UFC). At the end of the day, I’d like to go back and fight for a world title. If not, I’m going to have make my own world title and make the best come to me. I would like to be back in the UFC or fight the belt holders in boxing, also.”
What Diaz is alluding to here is the fact that he’s recently opened his own fight promotion company, Real Fight Inc. It’s still in it’s earliest stages at the moment but it’s possible that it becomes something that really does take off in the world of boxing or MMA. He still recognises that the UFC is the biggest game in town right now, and if he wants to return to professional MMA competition then there isn’t anywhere that will draw more attention:
“Right now, UFC has the best fighters in the world and have for years. I’m trying to fight the best.”
It would be surprising to see him return to the UFC given that he fought out the last fight on his contract all the way back at UFC 279 against Tony Ferguson. It seems as though one of the main attractions for Nate Diaz in the UFC is the possibility of settling the score with Conor Mcgregor in a third fight between the two men:
“I would like to get the third fight with Conor, I think it’s inevitable. For sure, we’ll be fighting.”
