The IBJJF Rio Fall Open 2025 took place from April 5th to 6th, 2025 and there were quite a few world champions competing. Erich Munis left with double gold in the gi after winning the ultra-heavyweight and absolute divisions, while Luis Oliveira won silver medals next to Munis on both podiums. Eldeson Santino was the bronze medalist in the absolute division, but he did win the super-heavyweight title earlier in the day. The ultra-heavyweight bronze medalist was Leonardo Lemos, and he came back on the second day for another bronze medal in the no gi super-heavyweight bracket before winning the no gi absolute.
There were plenty of elite grapplers competing in the lighter weight classes too, particularly at featherweight where Meyram Maquine beat Cleison Gabriel in the final to win gold. Nathannael Jackson won the light-featherweight division just below while Alex Sodre was the lightweight champion just above them. One of the toughest divisions of the whole IBJJF Rio Fall Open 2025 was actually at middleweight, where Gabriel Galvao beat Darlan Casaca in the final and Facundo Ciancio took home the bronze medal. Casaca did return to win a silver medal in the no gi medium-heavyweight division, where reigning ADCC champion Mica Galvao won gold.
The other major players in the men’s divisions were the heavyweight champions, Rider Zuchi who won gold in the gi and Iago Duarte who did the same in no gi. The women’s divisions had a few top contenders as well, with some excellent matches across several weight classes. Giovanna Carneiro won the medium-heavyweight and absolute divisions, beating out tough opposition in both. The absolute silver medalist was Jessica Dantas, and she beat Barbara Souza to win the light-featherweight division earlier on. The gold medal at middleweight was won by Vitoria Vieira while Mariana Aparecida registered an upset over Amanda Magda to win the heavyweight title.
