Miha Perhavec has been well known in the BJJ community for quite some time and he’s just become the first person to receive their black belt from the worm guard king Keenan Cornelius. The promotion happened at the headquarters of Legion Jiu-Jitsu in San Diego, where Cornelius has a phenomenal stable of elite brown belts like Sloan Clymer, Conner Deangelis, Breyler Grout, Michael Egley, and Austin Aaron Fraley to name just a few. Now the day has come for Perhavec to leave that group and join Cornelius as one of the black belts representing Legion Jiu-Jitsu on the competitive scene.
That group of top-tier brown belts come from a very diverse set of backgrounds and all bring something unique to what is surely an incredible training ground. Michael Egley and Conner Deangelis bring amazing training experiences over from Carlson Gracie Team and ATOS respectively, while Sloan Clymer has a deep level of wrestling experience that he adds to his coaching role at the gym. Miha Perhavec also has a unique story, starting out in Judo as a child and becoming a black belt in that sport long before he’d ever even started out in BJJ.
Perhavec has also traveled the world to train BJJ in the best gyms available and has been fortunate enough to learn from the best coaches in all areas. He also spent some time working with Yoga for BJJ and has competed for several big promotions, including a phenomenal 3-1 record for Polaris where his only loss came against 10th Planet’s Richie “Boogieman” Martinez. Perhavec announced the news of his promotion to black belt on his official Instagram account and recounted his grappling journey until now.
