Mayssa Bastos and Danielle Kelly will now be meeting in a rematch at ONE Fight Night 26 on December 6th, 2024. It’s one of the biggest matches that ONE Championship can make right now, and the stakes are going to be very high as well. The promotion’s atomweight submission grappling world championship is on the line and both women will obviously be determined to leave with the belt. The rematch will mean a lot to both of them for very different reasons, and it represents a great opportunity for the winner to prove that they are one of the best in the world at this weight class.
The pair only met for the first time earlier this year, when Bastos managed to win a unanimous decision at ONE Fight Night 24 and dethrone Kelly as the promotion’s atomweight champion. Kelly was actually the only female BJJ champion in ONE Championship history at that point in time. She won the inaugural atomweight title by winning a decision over Jessa Khan back at ONE Fight Night 14 last year, but she wasn’t able to make any successful title-defenses before Bastos came along. Now that Bastos is the reigning atomweight champion, she has the opportunity to make the first successful title-defense against the very woman that she beat for the title.
Bastos also has the opportunity to put a more definitive stamp on her victory, as she’ll almost certainly want to get the win by submission this time around. On the other side of things, ONE Fight Night 26 will represent a chance at redemption for Kelly. Not only can she get revenge against Bastos but she can also regain her title, two things that would be big moments for her. If Kelly wins then it will likely set up a trilogy match between them for some time in 2025, while a win for Bastos will probably lead to a new challenger for the first time.
