The dates and locations for both of the ADCC South American Trials in 2024 and registration is now open for the events. The two tournaments are remarkably close together and will actually take place just one week apart, no doubt attracting the best competitors from all across the continent as they battle for invites to ADCC 2024. Not only are they close in time but they are also pretty close in distance, as they will both be contested on the Eastern side of Brazil in the neighboring States of Sao Paulo and Minas Gerais.
The first of the two ADCC South American Trials will be taking place in Belo Horizonte on March 2nd, 2024 and there will only be 5 tickets to the next ADCC event available there. This is because the first edition of any two ADCC Trials events only ever reward the winners of men’s divisions with invites to the main event. The second of these two tournaments will then take place on March 9th, 2024 in Sao Paulo and this time there will be invites available for the winners of all 8 divisions.
These will be the 14th and 15th editions of the ADCC South American Trials and the tournament has a long and storied history of being a pathway to greatness. Several ADCC world champions have earned their place at the tournament by winning the South American Trials first, including most recently the 66kg champion Diogo Reis. There’s even a number of members of the ADCC Hall of Fame who first got their opportunity to compete in the world’s most prestigious no gi grappling tournament by winning a South American Trial.
Roger Gracie won the ADCC South American Trial back in 2004 right before he made history by becoming the only person to submit all 8 opponents in both his weight class and the absolute at ADCC 2005. Andre Galvao won the ADCC South American Trials in both 2007 and 2009, building up towards his time as a double champion and his legendary run as the ADCC Superfight champion. It’ll be interesting to see which 13 competitors earn invites to ADCC 2024 and whether or not these tournaments become the catalyst for their legacy.
