Kody Steele moved to 5-0 in his professional MMA career after showing off some impressive striking skills against Nico Echeverry at Fury Challenger Series 7 on September 24th, 2023. Steele is an incredibly talented grappler and as a former Combat Jiu-Jitsu world champion, he was always going to be able to dominate the majority of MMA fighters on the ground. He made the decision to embark upon an MMA career towards the end of 2021 and after just two fights and three months as an amateur fighter, he advanced to the next stage of his career.
Steele made his professional MMA debut at the beginning of 2022 and he stuck with Fury FC, the same promotion he had both of his amateur fights with. That was the first time that he saw the judge’s scorecards, but it didn’t trouble him as he had won a convincing unanimous decision anyway. Steele hasn’t looked back since then and was most recently seen registering his second finish in four fights at Fury FC 81. Given how dominant he’s looked in each of his fights, it’s surprising that he wasn’t been snatched up by one of the major MMA promotions at that point.
He was then scheduled to compete against Nico Echeverry, his most experienced opponent to date, at Fury Challenger Series 7. Echeverry had a 12-6 professional record and would be a tough opponent for anybody on the regional MMA circuit, but Steele was able to show an even more impressive striking game than he has before. He finished the fight with a brutal knockout in the second round and moved to 5-0, further cementing the fact that he’s in a great position to make a big impact in a major promotion like the UFC or Bellator.
