Jocko Willink was one of many popular figures in the BJJ world who was in attendance at the 2022 ADCC world championships, but he’s the only one who has decided to give fans a behind the scenes look at the world’s most prestigious no gi grappling event. Not only is winning the ADCC world championships the crowning achievement in any serious no gi competitor’s career anyway, but the 2022 edition of the event was actually the biggest one in the promotion’s history as well.
ADCC 2022 saw the first ever Hall of Fame induction ceremony in the history of the organization, with the inaugural class of inductees representing some of the greatest athletes to ever step foot on the ADCC mats. Not only that, but the superfight between Andre Galvao and Gordon Ryan was easily one of the most hotly-anticipated grudge matches in the history of the sport as well. The event had more fans in attendance than any other edition of the ADCC world championships and multiple times more than anything that the IBJJF has ever gotten near.
The promotion didn’t just focus on the two days of elite competition either, as the ADCC Open took place shortly before and saw a number of athletes who fell just short of qualification competing there instead. It was truly an incredible series of days in Las Vegas, Nevada, for any grappling aficionado who was lucky to be in attendance and both Jocko Fuel and Origin USA were among the primary sponsors for the event. No doubt Jocko Willink would have watched ADCC 2022 as a fan regardless, but his ability to get an insider’s look in to how the event went down has given the fans a great insight.
