JitsCast #58 features Felipe Pena, one of the top BJJ competitors of his generation. Pena has won almost everything there is to win in the sport over the course of a decade competing at the highest level, including multiple ADCC and IBJJF World Championship titles. He’s shared the mats with pretty much all of the best grapplers in the world during that time and beaten most of them too. His record includes hundreds of high-profile matches and some of the most famous Jiu-Jitsu rivalries like his series of matches with Gordon Ryan, Andre Galvao, and Marcus ‘Buchecha’ Almeida.
Jits Magazine spoke to Pena about his most recent match against Luke Griffith at Who’s Number One 31. Pena competed against Griffith for the WNO heavyweight title and was coming into the match with two recent wins over him, but ended up losing the match by submission. Pena spoke about his performance in that match and explained some of the differences in it compared to his previous wins over Griffith. He also talked about why he wants a rematch against him as soon as possible, along with revealing the other two opponents that he wants to face next; Dan Manasoiu and Gordon Ryan again.
Pena also covered his epic rivalry with Ryan, and shared who he thinks were the toughest opponents of his lengthy career. Pena then spoke about his incredible run in the over 99kg division at ADCC 2024, and revealed why he didn’t compete in the absolute division despite originally planning to. He also competed at CJI 2 earlier this year and he spoke about his performance there too, starting with his match against Griffith and then his final match of the tournament against Dorian Olivarez. Finally, Pena wrapped up by sharing his thoughts about both team grappling and the use of the pit after experiencing them for the first time there.
