JitsCast #32 features one of the most successful ADCC Trials competitors in the history of the sport, four-time winner Paul Ardila. Not only has Ardila won the North American trials more time than anyone else, but he’s also competed at ADCC itself an incredible 5 times. He’s had consistent success at the highest level for over a decade now and remarkably, he’s done it while also going to law school and eventually opening his own law firm. Ardila has one of the most impressive stories in the sport, in that he’s able to be one of the best in the world despite doing it around a time-consuming professional career.
Ardila explained to Jits Magazine how he’s able to remain competitive at an elite level while also advancing his law career, and it all ties back to his early days in wrestling. Ardila wrestled throughout his time in high-school and eventually in college as well, discovering and falling in love with Jiu-Jitsu along the way. Ardila shared some stories from his first time competing in wrestling and his first time doing Jiu-Jitsu, along with explaining how wrestling has benefitted him in Jiu-Jitsu. He also explained why he fell in love with Jiu-Jitsu and ended up pursuing it at a professional level.
Ardila also talked about how he’s been able to have so much success at ADCC Trials, before looking back on his more recent competition experiences. He opened up about the unique experience of competing on a PGF season, and why he believes every competitor should do it at least once. He also spoke about his victory at the European Trials for CJI 2, even revealing how he ended up traveling to London to compete as a wildcard. Ardila focused on his final match with Taylor Pearman, breaking down how he think his performance went and how he felt about going to overtime at the last minute.
