JitsCast #10 features Dima Murovanni, one of the rising stars of the BJJ coaching world right now. Murovanni actually burst onto the scene as a high-level coach when he was still a colored belt himself, thanks to the success of the competitors training with him at ADCC Trials in 2023 and 2024. He wasn’t particularly well-known before this point but the impressive performances that they put on really made people take note of Murovanni. From there, his career has gone from strength to strength until he was brought in to run the B-Team Jiu-Jitsu training camp for both the Craig Jones Invitational and ADCC 2024.
Many people first learned of Murovanni through his associated with Jozef Chen, one of several competitors who won ADCC Trials and credited him with a portion of that success. We wanted to find out how Murovanni and Chen first connected with each other, and how that coaching relationship came to be. Not only was Murovanni happy to share the story of how they met, but it also led to him explaining how he got the role as coach at B-Team too. Murovanni also explained how he first discovered the sport himself, and his martial arts background leading up to that point.
While some coaches and competitors like to be secretive about their methods, Murovanni was refreshingly open and honest about how he gets the most out of his athletes. He also explained how he ran that famous training camp for CJI and ADCC, along with reflecting on the performance of some of his athletes. That led to him giving an assessment of where Nicky Rodriguez stands after his incredible performance at CJI, and his strengths as an athlete. He also shared the background and ideas behind what he calls Rumble passing, one of the concepts that helped Jacob Rodriguez win a silver medal at ADCC 2024.
