The IBJJF Sao Paulo Pro Open 2024 took place on September 15th, 2024 and with some decent cash prizes on offer, the promotion was able to attract some of the best grapplers from all around Brazil. There were less men’s weight classes available than a normal IBJJF event, so the talent there was condensed around a handful of divisions. That meant there was also no men’s absolute division, so the heaviest bracket was at ultra-heavyweight and that was won by Erich Munis. He beat Anderson Kauan in the final to take home the gold medal, and one of the bronze medals was won by his teammate Luis Oliveira.
Munis wasn’t the only champion from Fratres Jiu-Jitsu though, as Gabriel Galvao stood on top of the podium at middleweight. Another Fratres Jiu-Jitsu competitor fell just short of the same achievement, as Rider Zuchi had to settle for a silver medal at heavyweight behind Windson Torres. The final men’s division available at the IBJJF Sao Paulo Pro Open 2024 was at lightweight, and Leonardo Mario took home the gold medal there after beating Matheus Onda in the final. There were a few more Fratres competitors in the women’s divisions though, particularly at light-featherweight where Jessica Dantas took gold and Giulia Gregorut took silver.
Caroline Brunacio really stood out in the featherweight division by beating Maria Claudia in the final after already beating Andressa Tolentino to make it there. There were plenty of top female competitors across all the other divisions too, with Maria Luiza winning the lightweight bracket while Amanda Magda was given a default gold at heavyweight and won bronze in the absolute. The biggest achievement of the day came from Gabrieli Pessanha though, as she won both the super-heavyweight and absolute divisions. An honorable mention goes to relatively fresh black belt Isabely Lemos, who left with a bronze medal at super-heavyweight and a silver in the absolute after dropping a pair of matches to Pessanha.
