The IBJJF Sacramento Open 2023 took place from November 11th to 12th, 2023 and there was a ton of action in every division at the event. Art of Jiu-Jitsu competitor Mateus Rodrigues put on a flawless display over the course of the weekend, as he managed to win an incredible four gold medals from it. He won the super-heavyweight division in the gi and the heavyweight division in no gi, along with standing on top of the podium in both absolute divisions as well. Jaine Fragoso almost achieved the same in the women’s divisions as she won the lightweight division in the gi and both absolute divisions, but ended up with a silver medal at lightweight in no gi.
Kennedy Maciel and Zach Kaina both impressed too, as they took silver and bronze respectively in the gi absolute despite competing at featherweight. They were the only two competitors at that weight in the gi and Maciel won that match, before returning on the second day to win the no gi lightweight division by beating Danilo Moreira. The other notable gi winners were Italo Lima Costa at ultra-heavyweight and Elizabeth Mitrovic at women’s heavyweight, while Keven Carrasco got a default gold medal at light-featherweight.
Mitrovic returned to get a default gold in the no gi heavyweight division, although she got a hard-earned silver medal in the no gi absolute. Thamires Monteiro and Amanda Bruse stood on the third-place in the no gi absolute podium after getting a default gold at medium-heavyweight and a gold at lightweight respectively. There was several other fun matchups in the men’s no gi divisions at the IBJJF Sacramento Open 2023, including at super-heavyweight where Eliot Kelly won gold in a two-man bracket. Kelly returned later on to add a bronze medal from the no gi absolute division to his collection too.
