The results are in for the IBJJF Pan-Ams 2020 and the organization’s first major event since the start of the Coronavirus pandemic ended up with plenty of young stars and experienced competitors sharing the podium together. The final day is always reserved for the peak of the sport, the adult black belt divisions, but the build-up to this was just as exciting as the delivery. Not only did prodigies like Tainan Dalpra deliver phenomenal results in the colored belts, prompting their coaches to promote them to the highest levels, but older competitors like Gregor Gracie also delivered great results in the black belt Masters divisions too.
Then of course, outside of the actual tournament results, the IBJJF also announced some fantastic news for competitors moving forward. The first revelation was that they’d considered the Pan-Ams to be a resounding success despite Brazilian athlete’s complaints at the event going ahead while travel restrictions were in place. This was clear from their decision to announce that the no gi edition of the Pan-Ams having been scheduled to take place before the end of the year. Then the news that everyone was waiting for arrived when the IBJJF revealed that both heelhooks and reaping the knee would be legal at black and brown belt categories in 2021.
