The IBJJF Campeonato Sul Brasileiro 2024 took place across the weekend of February 3rd and 4th, 2024 and some of the top grapplers from all around Brazil decided to compete at the event. There was plenty of action on the mats and some great matches in several of the divisions, particularly in the medium-heavyweight division where top contender Bruno Bressan took home the gold medal. Although Bressan won his division Checkmat still finished in second place in the team standings, with Gracie Barra taking home that title.
One of the smallest teams at the tournament actually made one of the biggest impacts though, as two men representing Fratres Jiu-Jitsu cleaned up the most important division. Vital Neto won both the absolute division and the heavyweight division, while his teammate Leandro Santos took the silver medal in both of those brackets. They had to overcome some very difficult opposition in order to occupy the top two spots on those podiums, most notably Felipe Pena black belt Gabriel Brod at heavyweight.
