The IBJJF American National Championship 2023 will now officially form part of UFC International Fight Week, with the tournament taking place across July 6th to 8th. This will be the 11th edition of the annual event, where combat sports fans from all around the world gather in Las Vegas, Nevada for a wide variety of different attractions spread across one epic week. What makes this particular edition even more special, is that it’s being used to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the UFC itself and Royce Gracie’s legendary run at UFC 1.
As always, the main attraction of International Fight Week is a major UFC card, in this case UFC 290 on the final night of July 9th which will be headlined by a featherweight title fight between Alexander Volkanovski and Yair Rodriguez. Before that event takes place, there will be a UFC Hall of Fame ceremony and several other attractions to entertain the fans in attendance. Now the IBJJF American National Championship 2023 will be one of those attractions and UFC fans in the building will get the chance to watch some of the best grapplers on the planet battle it out.
There’s quite a lot of time to go before registration closes for the event and the divisions are far from full, but already there’s some exciting competitors signed up. Pedigo Submission Fighting black belt Clay Mayfield has entered the medium-heavyweight division already, and Renato Tagliari has put his name down for the ultra-heavyweight division. In the women’s divisions, Talita Nogueira has signed up for super-heavyweight while Thamires Monteiro and Elizabeth Mitrovic are competing at middleweight and medium-heavyweight respectively. The registrations will start to fly in over the next few weeks and it’s likely that many more talented grapplers end up competing.
