Teenage prodigy Helena Crevar has just become the latest competitor to sign a ONE Championship contract and she will be making her promotional debut shortly. The interesting element of this signing is that Crevar herself has confirmed that it isn’t actually an exclusive contract. This is likely partly because she signed a UK exclusive contract with Polaris just a little over a year ago and is currently the reigning lightweight champion there. Given that ONE Championship have never staged an event in the UK and have never even shown any desire to do so, it seems like the two contracts won’t be in conflict with each other.
Crevar also has another major commitment coming up soon, as she was the first woman to receive an invite to the $100,000 tournament at CJI 2. It’s actually going to be an incredibly busy year for Crevar and she will be travelling all around the world to compete for multiple different major promotions in a very short space of time. In just a little over a week, she will be heading to Brazil to challenge for the gi middleweight title at BJJ Stars 16. It makes sense then why Helena Crevar would want a non-exclusive contract with ONE Championship, she’s one of the most in-demand competitors in the world right now.
Her debut opponent has yet to be confirmed and there’s no way to know who it’s going to be either, as ONE Championship have never staged a single grappling match in any of the weight classes she competes in. In line with their weight classes, Crevar would most likely be competing at either bantamweight (145lbs) or featherweight (155lbs) and they have no female grapplers under contract at those weights. They may end up giving her openweight matches against lighter competitors they already have like Mayssa Bastos, but the most likely outcome is them bringing in someone new and the best possible opponents at her weight are Beatriz ‘Bia’ Mesquita or a rematch with Ana Vieira.
