Gordon Ryan recently decided to give fans a full tour of the Kingsway Jiu-Jitsu headquarters in Austin, Texas ahead of their grand opening. It’ll be the first time that the most successful ADCC competitor of all time will actually be running his own academy, although it will still be alongside his own coach John Danaher of course. Danaher was originally teaching at Renzo Gracie New York and after a brief stint in Puerto Rico, his team has since been training out of the Roka facility in Austin, Texas. That’s been their situation for several years now, so it’s good to see that they’ve managed to set up a place of their own.
Things have moved fairly quickly as well, as Ryan only announced to the public that he was opening his own facility with Danaher at the beginning of 2025. This was back when the team still went by their original name instead of Kingsway Jiu-Jitsu, which is a relatively recent change. Since their return from Puerto Rico, Ryan and any other Danaher students have been competing under New Wave Jiu-Jitsu. That all changed for undisclosed reasons just a few weeks ago though, as it was revealed that they would undergo a complete rebrand to become Kingsway Jiu-Jitsu in time for the opening of their new facility.
The academy has already opened for registration in advance but only for a limited number of places and considering the level of instruction on offer, they’ll surely reach full capacity very quickly. Judging from the video tour that Gordon Ryan gave, it seems as though they’re almost finished with building out the Kingsway Jiu-Jitsu headquarters. It will no doubt attract experienced competitors and hobbyists from all around the world and even on a drop-in basis, high-level academies like this will often play host to elite wrestlers and MMA fighters along with competitors from other teams looking to conduct training camps.
