Georges St-Pierre is one of a select few fighters who have earned their place on every single fan’s list of the best UFC competitors of all time, but who does he think is the best right now? It’s a question he was asked in a recent interview with Bleacher Report, as part of a recent slate of media appearances that have allowed fans to see more of Georges St-Pierre now than they ever did when he was a UFC champion. He’s given several amazing insights into how his mind works, how he prepared for fights, and even how he would have planned to defeat Khabib Nurmagomedov.
When asked about who he thought was the best of the current roster of UFC fighters, it might not come as much of a surprise that he chose a champion who excels in wrestling above all else:
“I think Usman, right now, is the best pound-for-pound. In terms of performance, I think he’s one of the best right now and he’s an active competitor.”
He was complimentary about several other champions however and not all of them are wrestlers first and foremost. In fact, all three of the other champions he mentioned by name are definitely more strikers than they are grapplers:
“I like to watch Adesanya as well, Francis Ngannou, Ciryl Gane,. I like Volkanovski—all of the champions.”
Georges St-Pierre also picked out one performance in particular that impressed him above all else, and that was Brandon Moreno’s recent capture of the UFC Flyweight world championship:
“If we’re talking about who’s the greatest, I think Moreno is pretty amazing. The way he beat Figueiredo, that was amazing. It was an amazing performance—as good as it gets.”
