Alpha Grappling Championships is one of the most exciting young promotions in the UK and they’ve become known for exciting matches and diverse events. One series of their events is known as Luta Livre, and it features matches contested under the Combat Jiu-Jitsu ruleset within the promotion’s usual best-two-out-of-three format. This tends to produce exciting matches all throughout the night and we’ve previously covered some of the entertaining battles between up-and-coming competitors at these events. Out of all of the matches that has taken place over the first two Alpha Grappling Championships: Luta Livre events, one man in particular stands out.
Samuel Karas is an amateur MMA fighter and his style is perfectly suited to Combat Jiu-Jitsu, so he’s been able to excel right from the first event. He beat DeVante Johnson-Rose in his debut at the first Luta Livre event, and he returned to face Oskar Svels in the second event. Svels is a very talented grappler with a fantastic leglocking game and he was always going to be a tough match for Karas stylistically. Karas was able to survive a Svels’ attempts at attacking the legs throughout the match though and he used his wrestling advantage and heavy striking to earn a pair of arm-triangle choke submission wins.
