Jiu-Jitsu Overdose 2024 will take place across December 12th to 15th, 2024 and the first competitors have just been announced for the inaugural edition of this crazy event. It’s the brainchild of Eddie Bravo, as he looks to bring together all four of his promotions for one epic week. Over the course of four nights there will be four different events and each one is being staged by Bravo and his team. Those in attendance will get to watch EBI, the Combat Jiu-Jitsu World Championship, Medusa, and Combat Jiu-Jitsu Mexico all unfold one after the other in an action-packed week featuring some of the best grapplers in the world.
It was first announced just a few months ago and the details have been relatively few and far between, until now. Now the first competitors have been announced for three of the tournaments taking place at Jiu-Jitsu Overdose 2024, with Combat Jiu-Jitsu Mexico being the only unknown left. CJJ Mexico will actually be the first event taking place too, with two eight-man tournaments at 155lbs and 170lbs. Both of these brackets will actually act as qualifiers too, with the winner of the lightweight tournament earning a place in the Combat Jiu-Jitsu World Championship event and the winner of the welterweight tournament earning a place in the EBI event.
The Medusa show will also feature two tournament brackets, and it’s the only event that will feature female BJJ competitors. The women there will be competing at either strawweight or featherweight, and so far three names have been confirmed. Kiaya Jackson was one of the first to be announced and although she’s competed in a few different weight classes, featherweight seems the most likely for her. Aislinn O’Connell is the current Medusa bantamweight champion, so featherweight also seems the most likely place for her. The final woman announced is Lauren Sears and she too has competed at many different weight classes, so she could really be in either bracket.
Even more competitors have been announced for both EBI and the Combat Jiu-Jitsu World Championship, with 5 men confirmed for each tournament. The welterweight EBI bracket will feature several veterans of the ruleset, including top 10th Planet competitors Alan Sanchez and PJ Barch. Alongside them is another pair of teammates who will be very tough to beat, with top prospect Davis Asare and veteran grappler Oliver Taza both flying the New Wave Jiu-Jitsu flag. The final man confirmed for the EBI tournament is a competitor who first found the sport in Canada like Taza, elite leglocker Kieran Kichuk.
The final element of Jiu-Jitsu Overdose is the Combat Jiu-Jitsu lightweight world championship, and the five competitors announced for this are just as impressive. 10th Planet is equally well-represented, with Kieth Krikorian and Nathan Orchard competing alongside the Ben Eddy. There’s actually only one other team who have been confirmed so far, as the remaining two grapplers are from B-Team Jiu-Jitsu. They will be sending Ethan Crelinsten and Damien Anderson, both of whom have experience competing under the Combat Jiu-Jitsu ruleset before. The event is undoubtedly going to be very exciting and with dozens of spots still available, it’ll be interesting to see who else gets an invite.
The full Jiu-Jitsu Overdose event, including all of the above competitors, will be available to watch live across December 12th to 15th on UFC Fight Pass.
