Ffion Davies and Helena Crevar will now be going head-to-head as team captains for Europe and North America respectively in the first ever female edition of Polaris Squads. Although Polaris itself is one of the oldest and most successful professional grappling promotions around, their Squads format is a relatively new invention. The first ever Squads event took place in 2020 and although it was exciting to begin with, the promotion has made several tweaks to the format since then. The core idea has remained the same but they’ve now settled on something that can be held up as one of the best team grappling rulesets around.
It was perfect timing too, as the promotion launched the first ever Polaris Squads Intercontinental Championship this year. They stuck to men’s divisions for that tournament just like they have done for every other Squads event, but they did announce that women were also going to get their chance for the very first time. That’s where Davies and Crevar come into it, as they are both Polaris champions and now have the opportunity to represent their continents alongside four other elite grapplers. There’s no news yet on who their teammates will be but if past Squads events are anything to go by then the lineups should be excellent.
The first female Squads event mirrors the first men’s one in 2025 too, as that was also a battle between Europe and North America. Europe came out ahead in that battle by a pretty convincing margin and booked their place in the grand finale later this year, so it’ll be interesting to see if the women’s matchup goes the same way. Davies is the more experienced competitor over Crevar but the other four women on each team will have a huge part to play. Pretty much all of the best female competitors in both Europe and North America have competed on Polaris before, so the promotion has a lot of talent to choose from.
Polaris announced the news that Ffion Davies and Helena Crevar were going to be the team captains for the first ever female Polaris Squads event in a recent post to their official Instagram account:
