The IBJJF Paris Fall Open 2023 took place on November 18th, 2023 and the event attracted some of the best BJJ black belts from all around Europe to compete. There were great matches everywhere you look and although some of the no gi divisions weren’t particularly busy, there were plenty of gi competitors to make up for it. One of the most interesting matches actually came in the final of the gi middleweight division, as Leon Larman beat Matheus Rangel in order to take home the gold medal from that weight class. There were other tough grapplers in the division but this match in particular stood out as a fantastic battle between two top competitors.
There were plenty of other notable names stepping on the mats in other weight classes too, particularly at super-heavyweight where Freddie Vosgrone got a default gold and at ultra-heavyweight where Seif Eddine-Houmine emerged victorious in a tough division. He earned a bronze medal in the absolute division as well, but it was actually a much lighter grappler who won that. Charlie Adorian was fresh off standing on top of the podium at medium-heavyweight when he managed to add another gold medal to his collection by winning the absolute.
Kamil Wilk made an appearance in the no gi brackets, as he won the only match in the lightweight division. One of the UK’s top competitors, Sam Quinn, won double gold there as he stood on top of the podium in the absolute after doing the same at medium-heavyweight. This was a big improvement on his performance in the gi earlier in the day, where he had to settle for a bronze medal at medium-heavyweight. The women’s divisions at the IBJJF Paris Fall Open 2023 were pretty thin on the ground, with black belt matches in the no gi brackets at all. Stephanie Faure did put in an impressive performance in the gi though, as she won both the lightweight and absolute divisions.
