Demian Maia is one of the best grapplers to ever compete in MMA and as such, he knows a thing or two about using BJJ in order to win a fight involving strikes both standing on the ground. As a result, he’s decided to host an entirely free online seminar on using BJJ techniques for self-defense in real-life scenarios. Maia is a decorated grappler as well, having medalled at the IBJJF World Championships at each colored belt level and won both a silver and gold medal at the ADCC World Championships in 2005 and 2007 respectively.
He made his name moreso in the octagon though, having competed at the highest level of the UFC for well over a decade and earning both a Welterweight and Middleweight title shot along the way. Throughout his career, Maia beat some phenomenal wrestlers on the ground and was able to take down a number of great strikers as well. Seeing as Maia was known for securing the Rear Naked Choke once he had his opponent’s back, it’s likely that some of this seminar will discuss at least taking the back. The free online seminar will take place on Wednesday 2nd September at 5pm EST and the three areas it will look at are:
- The right mindset in self-defense.
- Hierarchy of attitudes to control, aggression against one or more opponents.
- Differences in mentality between Brazilian jiu-jitsu and self-defense Brazilian jiu-jitsu
Registration is required, including just an e-mail address and first name, in order to access the Demian Maia online seminar. click here to register.
