Conor McGregor has just revealed that he will be working with his old training partner Dillon Danis in order to prepare him for his upcoming boxing debut. This is far from the first time that the pair have been working together and for years, Danis was the one helping McGregor prepare for his fights. That was because Danis was a high-level grappler and was able to give McGregor great sparring rounds ahead of some of the elite UFC fighters that he has fought during his career.
Now Danis is leaving grappling behind him for a while after booking a boxing match against Logan Paul on October 14th, 2023 and he’s only got a little under two months to prepare. This means that the roles have reversed, as Conor McGregor is not only a much more skilled striker than Dillon Danis but he also has more time in the boxing ring too. McGregor was recently asked about the upcoming match and he had this to say:
“Dillon (Danis) will win for sure. They’re already backtracking right now. They woke an animal. I know Dillon years and I’ve trained with him many times. I’ve helped. I’m guiding him. I’m gonna train him for this and I guarantee a win. So I hope the lad shows up. He tried to put a bill on us if we don’t show up. We’re gonna see. We’re gonna come at him with a bill if he doesn’t show up.”
What McGregor is referring to, is the fact that Paul has allegedly negotiated a clause in Danis’ contract that will force him to pay a lump sum if he withdraws from the fight for any reason other than a legitimate injury. It’s unclear how enforceable that would be in the real world, but it certainly makes sense for Paul to attempt to protect both himself and the event in question given that Danis pulled out of his last boxing match just a matter of days before he was due to take to the ring.
