BJJ Stars 15 is scheduled for April 26th, 2025 and this will be the very first time that they have put together a grand prix tournament under ADCC rules. They are undoubtedly the biggest professional grappling promotion in Brazil and they are known for staging some of the best gi tournaments in the sport. This marks a huge change of pace for them and if they’re able to attract the same calibre of athlete that they usually do, this will easily be one of this year’s major events. They will likely be booking several superfights for the event as well, but the main attraction will obviously be the grand prix tournament.
The tournament will be contested in the middleweight division, something that should also generate some interest given that it’s one of the most stacked weight classes. There is no shortage of elite talent to choose from and a huge number of them actually come from Brazil, so BJJ Stars will have a lot of options. Interestingly though, this will actually be right in the middle of the traditional 77kg and 88kg weight classes that ADCC use for their eventd. That means there will likely be an unpredictable mixture of some competitors moving up in weight and some cutting down instead.
ADCC 2024 featured a number of Brazilian champions and in fact, the reigning champion at under 77kg is actually the middleweight gi champion at BJJ Stars as well. That man is Mica Galvao, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him return for this event given his history with the promotion. There’s also a number of ADCC Trials winners who would seem like top contenders if they were invited in to the eight-man bracket too, like Isaque Bahiense or Alexandre De Jesus. It’s always tough to predict who’s going to end up competing in a major event like this, but BJJ Stars has a history of bringing the very best in the world on to their mats.
