Legendary Jiu-Jitsu competitor Hannette Staack has just continued her MMA career with another submission win at Shooto Brasil 128 on March 21st, 2025. She left it pretty late to start her MMA career, as she was winning world titles as early as 2022 and only started preparing for her debut four years ago. After winning her first fight at the end of 2022, she has kept up a pretty regular pace of appearances and now sits at 3-1 with two submission finishes. It would be a successful transition by anyone’s standards but is even more impressive considering that Staack celebrated her 46th birthday just a little over a month before this fight.
Staack is one of the pioneers of women’s BJJ, winning her first IBJJF World Championship when the promotion had just 5 weight classes for female competitors. She won 6 more world titles and at the time she stood on the podium the final time, she held the record for women. Staack also competed in the very first women’s ADCC divisions in 2005 and although she didn’t win a title that time around, she returned with a vengeance in the next edition. She won both the under 67kg division and the absolute division in 2007, becoming the second female double champion in the promotion’s history.
That incredible grappling background was on full display at Shooto Brasil 128 too, as Hannette Staack took the fight to her opponent right from the start. She shot in for a double-leg after less than 20 seconds of striking and immediately dropped into half-guard. Staack landed some heavy shots to open Ferreira up and eventually passed into a suffocating mount. From there, she worked diligently to separate her opponent’s arms from her body and used short strikes to help achieve that goal. It was clear she was working towards a submission and she eventually got it, locking up an Americana from mount to get the finish at 3:16 of the very first round.
