The IBJJF Atlanta Spring Open 2024 took place on May 4th and 5th, 2024 and several top competitors made the trip to compete in the tournament. The biggest winner over the course of the weekend was Javier Barter, as he dominated every bracket he took part in and left with four gold medals. Barter won the heavyweight division in the gi on the first day, beating Enderson Dias in the final match, before going on to win the absolute division by beating him once again. Barter returned on the second day to receive a default gold in the super-heavyweight division and he won a tough no gi absolute division shortly afterward.
There was plenty of other entertaining matches on the first day though, particularly at featherweight where An Vu pulled off a big upset by beating Malachi Edmond in the final. Jefferson Nascimento won gold at lightweight and he was standing above two talented Movement Art grapplers on the podium, as he beat Nick Salles in the final and Danny Maira just before that. Elijah Dorsey emerged victorious in the middleweight division and he returned in the absolute later on, finishing the day with a bronze medal there alongside featherweight competitor Huthayfah Penney.
There weren’t many female competitors at the IBJJF Atlanta Spring Open 2024 unfortunately, but Larissa Dias still managed to get a few matches in against tough opponents. Dias started out by winning a gold medal in the super-heavyweight division after beating Lunna Vieira in the final match, and she also beat young competitor Karoline Caramori in the final of the absolute division to earn her second gold medal of the day. There wasn’t any adult black or even brown belt matches in the women’s no gi divisions unfortunately though, and there was only a handful of blue and purple belt matches.
