Popular Thailand martial arts academy Bangtao has just been announced the fourth and final team to complete the lineup for Quintet 5 on October 23rd, 2025. They are also the team with the most unusual coach, as all of their three potential opponents are being led by MMA veterans who are known for being elite grapplers. Bangtao are still being cornered by a former MMA fighter but instead, their coach is known more for his striking and incredible physical advantages. K-1 World Grand Prix winner Bob Sapp will be the one to take charge of Bangtao and it’s hard to imagine he’ll be able to give much technical advice given that he was never known for his grappling.
Bangtao’s co-founder and owner Alex Schild is actually going to be stepping on the mats to represent his team, and he has a wealth of both BJJ and MMA experience behind him. He’s not alone either, as retired UFC welterweight contender Dong Hyun Kim is also going to be competing alongside him. Both men only had a handful of submissions in their MMA careers but they’ll still be a handful for any of their opponents. Bangtao is also fielding 10th Planet black belt Kemoy Anderson, a PGF veteran who also happens to be the man running the show at Main Character Jiu-Jitsu.
Their final two representatives are also the biggest hitters on the team; the ones who are most likely to get submission wins. First is multiple-time IBJJF gi and no gi world champion Lucas ‘Hulk’ Barbosa, who has shared the mats with most of the beat grapplers in the world over the last decade. There’s also another 10th Planet veteran, as ADCC bronze medalist PJ Barch will be representing Bangtao too. Barch might not be as big as Barbosa but he’s incredibly well-rounded and one of the best counter-leglockers in the world, so he is more than capable of submitting anyone on the opposing teams.
