The ADCC San Diego Open 2025 took place on January 18th, 2025 and the event managed to attract some of the best grapplers in the world. ADCC veteran Elder Cruz won the men’s absolute division after three hard-fought matches, but he didn’t compete in any regular weight class. Young prospect Jett Thompson left with a silver medal in the absolute after losing to Cruz in the final, shortly after he took home another silver medal at under 83kg behind Jonnatas Gracie. The under 60kg and under 100kg divisions also featured some notable names, and they were won by Osamah Almarwai and Abraham La Montagne respectively.
There was a double champion in the women’s divisions, as Paige Ivette submitted all four of her opponents to win both the over 70kg and absolute brackets. Exciting contender Nora Schultz had to settle with a bronze medal in the absolute and a silver medal at under 70kg, finishing with a 3-2 record against some tough opposition. Amanda Bruse won the gold medal at under 65kg after winning both of her matches, while the under 55kg division was won by Mariana Rolszt. There was also a celebrity stepping on the mats to test themselves as well, as the men’s over 100kg beginner division saw World’s Strongest Man Martins Licis standing on top of the podium.
