Elder Cruz NewsElder Cruz is an IBJJF No Gi World Champion and one of the top BJJ competitors in the heavier weight classes. His combat sports career originally began with wrestling when he was 12 and he competed extensively on his high school team in California. When Cruz finished school he intended to make the transition to professional MMA and began learning both striking and Jiu-Jitsu in order to facilitate that move. Through that he found the Checkmat La Habra academy and he began focusing on Jiu-Jitsu under the guidance of Lucas Leite. It was Leite who eventually promoted Cruz to black belt in BJJ in 2022.
