Now that the dust has settled on ADCC 2024, the promotion has announced which of the elite athletes who competed have been honored with one of their official awards. It’s a tradition that fans have come to enjoy, as the promotion names their choices for best match, best athlete, and many more. The best athlete seemed like a relatively easy choice, as Kaynan Duarte had the performance of a lifetime at the event. Not only did he become one of only a handful of ADCC double champions, but he did it with the second-best run of all time by securing 7 submission wins in 8 matches.
Duarte was joined by Helena Crevar, as the young grappler won best new athlete after a superb performance at under 65kg ended with a silver medal on her first attempt. Owen Jones registered the fastest submission against Gairbeg Ibragimov in the second round, earning his place in history too. Michael Pixley was awarded best throw of the tournament for the harai goshi he landed early in his match with Nicholas Meregali. Pixley went on to score the biggest upset of the ADCC 2024 by winning that match too. The final award was the one for best match and that went to the final of the under 88kg division, where Giancarlo Bodoni beat Jacob Rodriguez on points.
If you missed it, we ran a full live play-by-play of every weight class at ADCC 2024 over the course of the weekend and finished off with another live play-by-play of the absolute divisions too.
