The IBJJF Memphis Open 2024 took place across the weekend of February 24th and 25th, 2024, and the event was not as busy as it might have been due to the fact that there were a number of different tournaments taking place around the US on the same weekend or shortly after. There was still plenty of action in each of the divisions regardless, and there was even a handful of big names spread out across the event as well. The women’s brackets were relatively empty though, with zero no gi matches happening above the rank of blue belt and only a single female black belt match in the gi taking place in the absolute division.
One of the most notable names competing in the men’s divisions at the event was Carlos ‘Bebeto’ Oliveira, who entered the light-featherweight division in the gi. He stormed to victory in a talented division and left with a gold medal for his efforts, although he was far from the only top competitor to do so. Yan Paiva also competed and he managed to stand at the top of the podium as well, taking home a gold medal in the gi middleweight division. There was also a popular competitor in one of the masters divisions at the IBJJF Memphis Open 2024 as well, as Alexandre Vieira won a silver medal in the master 1 medium-heavyweight gi division.
Marcos Carrozzino was the man who walked away with the biggest prize on that first day by winning the absolute division, although he had no matches at super-heavyweight and was given a default gold there. After another default gold medal in his no gi weight class on the second day, he had to settle for a silver medal in the absolute division after losing to Clay Mayfield in the final. That was Mayfield’s only gold medal of the weekend, as he took a pair of default silver medals from both his gi and no gi weight classes.
