The ADCC Sydney Open 2024 took place on April 21st, 2024 and there was plenty of action in every division, including some high level competitors who ended up standing on the podium. ADCC veteran Josh Saunders took home the biggest prize in the men’s brackets, as he won gold medals in the heaviest weight class at over 100kg and in the absolute division. He wasn’t the only double champion in the advanced brackets, although there weren’t too many competitors in the women’s divisions. Rosabella Tuicuvu still put on an impressive display regardless, as she managed to win the over 70kg division and the absolute.
There were other exciting competitors leaving with gold medals, particularly in the under 76kg division where recent ADCC Trials bronze medalist David Stoilescu emerged victorious. Daiki Yonekura also put in a great performance in the under 65kg division too, where he won despite some tough opposition. It was a great sign for the future for Stoilescu and Yonekura in fact, as there is one final edition of ADCC Trials available for Asia and Oceania this year and they will almost certainly both be competing. There was also a surprise appearance by popular celebrity PT James Smith, who won a bronze medal at under 100kg in his first competition as a BJJ brown belt.
