The IBJJF Nashville Fall Open 2024 took place on November 16th and 17th, 2024 and the tournament attracted several top competitors in the end. There was one man who managed to walk away with more medals in black belt divisions than anyone else, Marcos Carrozzino. He won a default gold medal in the gi at super-heavyweight first, but quickly followed that up with a hard-earned victory in the absolute division. Carrozzino then returned on the second day to compete in the no gi brackets as well, where won another gold medal at ultra-heavyweight and finished his weekend with a bronze medal in the no gi absolute.
ADCC veteran Jacob Couch was the champion in the no gi absolute division, and he also won the no gi heavyweight bracket earlier on in the day. He beat medium-heavyweight champion Austin Oranday in the absolute final while the lightest man on that podium was the lightweight gold medalist, David Stoilescu. Down at featherweight; Emilio Hernandez was another big name competing and although he had to settle for a silver medal in no gi, he did win the gi bracket on the first day. There were plenty of other talented grapplers competing in the gi as well, although they were generally at heavier weight classes.
Pablo Lavaselli won gold at middleweight and Alexandre Manara emerged victorious in the ultra-heavyweight division, before finishing with a bronze medal in the gi absolute. There weren’t many female BJJ black belts competing in the IBJJF Nashville Fall Open 2024 unfortunately, but there were still a few entertaining matches taking place. Chayse Diekema had the most notable performance in the gi, as she won only match in the lightweight division and won the absolute division straight after. There was also a surprise appearance in the adult divisions by BJJ legend Wellington ‘Megaton’ Dias as well, although he had to settle for a default bronze at lightweight.
