The IBJJF Geneva Open 2024 took place across the weekend of May 4th and 5th, 2024, and there was several fun matches in multiple different divisions. Seif-Eddine Houmine walked away with two gold medals on the first day of the event, as he won the only match of the ultra-heavyweight division and emerged victorious in the absolute later on. Faris Ben-lamkadem delivered a solid performance too, as the Roger Gracie Academy black belt won the medium-heavyweight division and managed to take home a bronze medal from the absolute division. Wanki Chae was one of the other notable champions too, as he stood on top of the podium at light-featherweight.

The middleweight division was where most of the action took place though, as Lucas Protasio got a huge win over Pedro Silva to win the final match. Matheus Rangel was the bronze medalist in that weight class and he actually returned on the second day in order to compete in the no gi version of the same division, where he won gold. He wasn’t the only one to take to the mats on both days though, as Chae moved up to featherweight to find some no gi matches and took bronze behind Jack Sear and Omri Haviv in second and first respectively. Both Sear and Haviv returned in the absolute and despite being the smallest competitors they both made it to the final to replay that match, but Haviv won his second gold medal of the day.

There weren’t many matches at all in the women’s divisions at the IBJJF Geneva Open 2024, but there was one woman who managed to finish the weekend with an unbeaten record. Amanda Pamela Nicole entered every division she could and although she couldn’t find any no gi matches, she did manage to get a tough match against Julia Maele in the gi middleweight division and another against Valeria Sutera in the gi absolute. She left the tournament with four gold medals after winning both of her gi matches and being given default golds in both of her no gi brackets.
