10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu has just become the first team to confirm their place at the CJI 2 and announce the full official team lineup as well. The second Craig Jones Invitational is taking a very different approach to the promotion’s debut event by completely changing the format. The first CJI was a straightforward tournament that crowned two champions who each won a million dollars, and it was easily one of the greatest events in the history of the sport. Rather than repeating a format that they know works, the promotion decided to take a big risk by changing to Quintet-style team grappling tournament that will award a million dollars to the winning team instead.

There was a lot of speculation around which teams will actually be competing at the event almost immediately and although B-Team Jiu-Jitsu were effectively guaranteed a spot thanks to their close connection with the promotion, nothing else was set in stone. Jones was confident that New Wave Jiu-Jitsu would accept the invite to compete, but the first team to officially come forward is 10th Planet. It’s not surprising that they’d be interested in competing either, as Eddie Bravo has famously put together multiple teams for Quintet events in the past and they’ve historically done very well in the format too.

Bravo is drawing on that experience in the 10th Planet team lineup that he’s put together for CJI 2 as well, as several members have competed at Quintet events in the past. The lightest weight class at 66kg is being taken up by veteran competitor Geo Martinez, while two-time EBI welterweight champion Alan Sanchez will be the 77kg entrant. That has meant that top contender PJ Barch has moved up to 88kg to take that spot and Ryan Aitken will also be moving up to under 99kg. Kyle Boehm is the final man completing the lineup, as he takes the heaviest invite at over 99kg.

-77kg: Alan Sanchez

-88kg: PJ Barch

-99kg: Ryan Aitken

+99kg: Kyle Boehm

The full lineup for the 10th Planet team competing at CJI 2 was announced in a recent post to the promotion’s official Instagram account:
