Who’s Number One 31 is scheduled for December 5th, 2025 and we’ve put together a preview of every match on the card. The promotion is finishing the year off strong with a great lineup, including three title-fights at the end of the night. The main event is where they will crown a new heavyweight champion, as Felipe Pena and Luke Griffith will do battle for the title that Gordon Ryan vacated. Both the men’s lightweight and women’s featherweight champions will be putting their belts are on the line right before that, and Gabrieli Pessanha will be taking the first professional no gi match of her career.
Who’s Number One 31 Full Card Preview
Felipe Pena vs Luke Griffith – Heavyweight Championship
The main event is also one of the ones with the biggest favorite, as Felipe Pena is now 2-0 with a pair of submission wins against Luke Griffith. Their most recent match earlier this year at CJI 2 was his most dominant out of the two, as Pena was in control right from the start before eventually finding the armbar finish. His other win came just over a year earlier at ADCC 2024, where he took Griffith’s back and submitted him with a choke. Griffith did have Pena in trouble early on in that match and he’s getting better all the time so he has the skills to win, but Pena is the clear favorite regardless.
Diego ‘Pato’ Oliveira vs Deandre Corbe – Lightweight Championship
This is a great rematch, as Deandre Corbe actually holds a win over Diego ‘Pato’ Oliveira from the beginning of the year. That was a fairly narrow win by decision that was considered an upset at the time, and Oliveira is the favorite here again. He’s the reigning champion at both lightweight and featherweight, and he’s one of the best guard-players in the world. Corbe is definitely more well-rounded and he can win another decision if he plays it perfectly but Oliveira has several different ways to find the finish and even if he doesn’t, he should be able to keep Corbe on the defensive long enough to win the decision.
Helena Crevar vs Julia Boscher – Featherweight Championship
Helena Crevar is also putting her belt on the line and FloGrappling have picked out an excellent opponent for her to finish the year. She might not be as well-known as Crevar but Julia Boscher is a veteran grappler who’s been competing at this level for several years now. Boscher will be a game opponent and she’s going to throw everything she can at Crevar, but Crevar has already proven that she belongs among the best around right now. She’s the favorite to win here and will likely end up getting the submission win.
Xande Ribeiro vs Faris Ben-Lamkadem
This is a fun matchup between completely different generations of competitors. Xande Ribeiro is without a doubt one of the best BJJ competitors to ever set foot on the mats and he was already winning world titles years before Faris Ben-Lamkadem even put on a gi. Obviously that experience and higher level of consistent success does count for a lot, but Ben-Lamkadem is significantly younger and is currently in his athletic prime. That makes a big difference and match will probably be pretty close as a result, but Ribeiro should still get the win.
Gabrieli Pessanha vs Paige Ivette
Gabrieli Pessanha has already won everything there is to win in the gi multiple times over and she’s on track to become the most successful gi competitor of all time within the next few years. At the same time, she’s also made an excellent transition to no gi competition over the last year. She’s undefeated in no gi so far and although Paige Ivette is an excellent grappler and tough opponent, Pessanha is the clear favorite here.
Dante Leon vs Andy Murasaki
Andy Murasaki is another gi competitor first and foremost, but he’s always dabbled in no gi and generally had success doing so as well. He’s well-rounded with an excellent X guard game that translates perfectly to no gi, but his opponent here is an elite passer with no noticeable flaws or weaknesses. Dante Leon can meet pretty much anyone in the world anywhere and is very tough to submit, and his higher level of experience in no gi competition should tip the balance in his favor too. Murasaki definitely has the skills to win it, but Leon is the slight favorite.
Felipe Costa vs Abraham La Montagne
Felipe Costa had a fantastic year last year, starting with a bronze medal at ADCC 2024. He also originally won the IBJJF No Gi World Championship 2024 at the end of the year but he was stripped of that title just a few months later when the results of testing came in and he tested positive for Clomiphene. He’s undoubtedly one of the best in the world at this weight and there’s only a handful of men that you might feel confident betting on against him. Abraham La Montagne is an excellent grappler with some devastating leglocks but Costa has shown himself to be more well-rounded and a good enough tactician to win the decision here.
Joslyn Molina vs Katie Bochenek
This is the highlight match of the preliminary card, as both women are exciting competitors. Katie Bochenek has been quietly building an impressive resume recently and she’s had some very impressive performances on regional events, proving that she’s ready for bigger challenges. Joslyn Molina is on a whole other level though, as the 13 year-old has already been beating veteran black belts and is widely-regarded as the next big thing in the sport. Bochenek will make for a very tough opponent, but Molina should come away with the win here.
Grayson Henley vs Michael Bannach
Checkmat representative Grayson Henley has had a great year already, including recently making his debut at EBI 25 just a few months ago. Michael Bannach hasn’t quite competed at the same level, but the amateur MMA fighter has won matches on pretty much every regional show around. This match could go either way really, but Henley is probably the slight favorite.
Nick Fritz vs Sean Magnus
Sean Magnus is another EBI veteran, as he competed at EBI 21: The Absolutes last year. He’s also got plenty of MMA experience as an amateur fighter, massing a 5-1 record over the past few years and competing as recently as just a few months ago. This won’t be easy for him though, as Nick Fritz is a veteran black belt with years of wins at this level behind him. It’s another close matchup but Magnus probably has the slight edge here.
