Who’s Number One 27 took place on April 18th, 2025 and there was plenty of unexpected results and thrilling highlights from start to finish. It was always going to be a big night with ADCC double champ Kaynan Duarte and CJI champ Nicky Rodriguez clashing in the main event. There was plenty of exciting young prodigies competing on the preliminary card and even on the main card too, as Helena Crevar was challenging Elisabeth Clay for the featherweight title. There was quite a few veteran competitors stepping on the mats at WNO 27 as well though, and one of the most notable matches of the night was between BJJ legend Xande Ribeiro and 10th Planet pioneer Richie Martinez.
The young prospects kicked things off in the opening match of the night, and Taylor Hishaw notched up an impressive decision win over Trinity Pun. Things kicked into high gear in the very next match, as Ben Eddy locked up a mounted triangle choke to finish Josh Wyland. Alan Magendzo got the next win of the night by decision after stepping in on short notice, before Chris Wojcik finished the preliminary card early by submitting Michael Esquivel with his trademark Woj Lock in a little over two minutes. It was a great start to the night for the fans and for B-Team Jiu-Jitsu specifically, as they were 2-1 with 2 more matches to go.
Owen Jones and Julian Espinosa put on an amazing show in the first main card match, throwing everything they had at each other for about twelve minutes until Jones got the finish with a rear-naked choke. That brought B-Team up to 3-1 ready for one of their biggest stars to step up in the main event. There was plenty more to come before that though, and Xande Ribeiro submitted Richie Martinez with a kimura in the very next match. The quickest finish of the night came straight after that, as Andrew Tackett locked up a quick heel hook to submit Fabyury Khrysthyan.
That led in to the only title-fight of Who’s Number One 27 and Helena Crevar delivered the results she needed to become the youngest champion in the promotion’s history. She submitted Elisabeth Clay with a rear-naked choke that clearly put a ton of rotating pressure on her neck in the process. Luke Griffith and Victor Hugo put on a classic match in the co-main event and although both men had moments of success, Griffith finished the match strongly to earn the decision win. The main event then saw Nicky Rodriguez spend almost half of it in mount and although he couldn’t get the finish, he did more than enough to get the decision win over Kaynan Duarte.
