John Danaher’s most successful MMA student and one of the top picks for greatest MMA fighter of all time, Georges St-Pierre, has paid a visit to his new location down in Puerto Rico to get some valuable training time in with the greatest no gi grappler on the planet right now, Gordon Ryan. Despite being retired from the sport for quite some time now, St-Pierre is certainly not taking it easy after his combat sports career has come to an end. He hasn’t fought since his legendary UFC Middleweight title-winning comeback fight against Michael Bisping in 2017, and even that was his first fight in four years after giving up the Welterweight title he defended for so long.
St-Pierre is one of a select few MMA fighters that can be described as a true martial artist however. He might not be competing, but that doesn’t mean he’s slacking off at all. He still finds the time to practice the arts that he loves and ensures that he continues to do so with the best coaches and training partners on the planet. He spends time with Freddie Roach to work on his boxing and John Danaher to work on his Jiu-Jitsu, sparring with the best athletes in either sport on a regular basis. All of this is on top of a rigorous physical training regimen that includes some incredible gymnastic workouts.
This kind of dedication to the sport is one of the many things that brought St-Pierre the amazing success that he enjoyed throughout his career, and even Danaher himself has said so. It’s also what allowed him to return to the sport after nearly half a decade and look even better than the day he left, and what allows him to look capable of returning at the drop of a hat despite recently hitting his 40th birthday. That’s why he’s the only former champion on the planet who is still frequently talked about as having the potential to return and challenge for a UFC title immediately.
