Guram Kutateladze is a veteran MMA fighter and a UFC lightweight competitor since 2020, and he’s just been promoted to black belt in BJJ too. Kutateladze is a Georgian-born fighter who trains at Allstars Training Center in Sweden alongside fan-favorites Khamzat Chimaev and Alexander Gustafsson. He has put together a 12-3 professional MMA record since he made his debut back in 2010 and has won most of his fights by way of knockout or TKO.
Kutateladze made his UFC debut against another talented grappler, ADCC veteran Mateusz Gamrot, back in 2020 and won a close split decision. He has only managed to fight once since then, dropping another split decision to Damir Ismagulov in 2022, but he is no doubt eager to get back into action as soon as possible. Guram Kutateladze spoke about the feeling he got when being promoted to black belt in BJJ recently:
“I don’t know what to say or write. Didn’t have words then, don’t have any now. I’m just thankful. And I know that this is the start of another journey and roller coaster. I will try to describe it, if I can. I want to share a little piece of this journey. Even if my coaches will have willing to slap me for that, but I will always think, that I don’t deserve this belt. But I will always prove, that it is well deserved. I met and start training with my friend, big brother, mentor, role model and a coach Tomasz Rajca, for approximately 12 years ago, as soon as I arrive to Sweden. After my Japanese Jiu Jitsu black belt , my dream was to become a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt, one day. And this road and path looked to be too far away. We went through a lot together, in sports and private life too. All the hours inside and outside of the mats, developing and improving as an athlete and a human being. Building things from the scratch. On this long and struggling way I met Tomasz’s Professor, Bobby Andersson. And I can’t thank them enough and appreciate our relationship between each other. We were, still are and will keep on going strong together. Now we have one more belt left.”
