The rumors that Ronda Rousey is planning on returning to professional MMA have been building for a while now, and UFC Featherweight fighter Chelsea Chandler has just added some fuel to the fire. It’s been almost 7 years since Rousey last set foot in the octagon and that fight against Amanda Nunes was after a year away from the sport as well. She lost her last two fights and decided to leave the sport entirely, embarking upon a change of career by becoming a WWE competitor instead. The MMA world moved on and Nunes established herself as one of the greatest champions in the sport’s history, before eventually retiring at the top of the game and leaving a hole at the top of both the UFC women’s bantamweight and featherweight divisions.
UFC commentator Jon Anik was among the first to bring up the possibility of Ronda Rousey returning to professional MMA, but it seems like he may have actually been on to something. When Chelsea Chandler was doing some pre-fight interviews ahead of UFC Vegas 77, she brought up the topic when asked about where she sees the featherweight title going next:
“I’ve been hearing Ronda (Rousey) is coming back. I’ve heard she’s coming back at 145. So, you never know… If I got out there and put on the performance I plan on putting (on), I’ll welcome her to 145. I think it would be a great fight. It has been a long time for her and things change, people get better, and I think people are over her one-trick-pony armbar. Money talks, and she would bring eyes to the sport again. I feel like her time in WWE is starting to go down, so I’d like to see it.”
