Tye Ruotolo will now be competing in a catchweight submission grappling match against Saygid ‘Dagi’ Arslanaliev at ONE Fight Night 13 on August 4th, 2023. The match has been put together on relatively short notice, and it also represents the first time that Arslanaliev has competed in a little under two years. Although Arslanaliev is an MMA veteran who got his start in combat sports by learning Wushu, he’s also got a wealth of experience competing in BJJ as well.
Arslaniev has actually been competing for ONE Championship since 2016, when his professional MMA record was just 1-0. He has since managed to progress to 9-2, registering several big wins by both submission and knockout over the years since then. He’s taken some time away from the sport since the last time Saygid ‘Dagi’ Arslanaliev fought though and in fact, Tye Ruotolo has had enough time to sign a contract with ONE Championship and get his career there off to a flying start since he last stepped into the cage.
Ruotolo has been on a fantastic run since he first competed for ONE Championship, when he submitted Garry Tonon back at ONE 157. It wasn’t long before he booked his second match either, and he registered another flawless performance by submitting Marat Gafurov at ONE on Prime Video 5. It likely won’t be long before he joins his brother as a champion with this kind of record, particularly as his most recent match was a grueling decision win over Reinier de Ridder at ONE Fight Night 10. Although Arslanaliev won’t be an easy opponent by any stretch of the imagination, Ruotolo is clearly the favorite to win here.
