Tye Ruotolo put on a fantastic performance against Jozef Chen at ONE Fight Night 23 on July 5th, 2024. Despite the fact that Ruotolo is the reigning welterweight world champion at ONE Championship, there wasn’t any silverware on the line in this match as it was contested at a catchweight limit. There was a lot of fanfare when the matchup was first announced, primarily because this would be one of the toughest matches that either man has had in recent times. Alongside that, it also served as a potential preview of the under 80kg division at the Craig Jones Invitational as well.
Chen was one of the first people to join the lineup for CJI and although several more elite competitors have since made the same decision, the recent announcement that Kade and Tye Ruotolo were both also entering was a huge moment. In the end it was a fantastic match with just as much action as fans expected, with both men pushing the pace from start to finish. Neither man was able to find the finish or even hit a deep enough submission attempt to earn a catch, but the judges gave the decision to Ruotolo and he walked away the winner..
