Marcus ‘Buchecha’ Almeida is the subject of a new film that will focus on his life and combat sports career, with it’s release due soon. There’s only a small handful of BJJ films in existence but that number is steadily growing, and there’s plenty of people out there who would want to see the story behind some of the sport’s biggest names. Buchecha has won more IBJJF world championship gold medals than any other person in the history of the sport, with an incredible thirteen titles to his name. He’s also won a pair of ADCC world championships and three more medals from the world’s most prestigious no gi grappling tournament, all before he pursued his recent venture into MMA.
Since making an impressive professional MMA debut that ended in a first-round submission finish, Buchecha has dominated every time he’s stepped into the cage. Most recently he fought Kirill Grishenko at ONE on Prime Video 1 and another submission win there meant that he maintained a perfect 4-0 record of first-round finishes in the sport. The new film about Marcus ‘Buchecha’ Almeida will document both his time dominating the world of BJJ and his transition to MMA, and he announced the news himself:
“Very happy to share first hand the trailer of the movie “Buchecha – Much Beyond World Records” an author project that I’ve been working on for some time and today we’re making the pre-premiere in São Paulo. I would like to thank everyone who has supported us directly and indirectly. Thanks a lot and I hope you guys like it!”
It’s great to see that more time is being spent documenting the rise of BJJ stars and other recent documentary projects have been met with similar excitement. The recent film about the life of Fernando ‘Terere’ Augusto has been thoroughly well-received, and another one documenting Andre Galvao’s journey to ADCC looks promising too. Shortly after the announcement, the premiere happened and the first reviews are already in:
“The 13x jiu-jitsu world champion and MMA fighter Marcus Almeida “Buchecha”, is releasing a brand new movie about his story. “BUCHECHA – Far Beyond World Records” is a 60-minute documentary that I had the honor and the privilege of watching it firsthand. For me, a documentary of this quality is the consolidation of one of the most successful stories in the world of sports. I was very touched to see Leandro (Lo) in the movie… The release date will be announced soon. You have to watch this one.”
