The IBJJF Austin Summer Open 2024 took place across the weekend of July 13th and 14th, 2024 and the tournament attracted several rising stars alongside the regular top contenders. New Wave Jiu-Jitsu in particular were very well-represented in the coloured belt divisions, as they left with 5 gold medals from just 2 athletes. Landon Elmore won the blue belt lightweight no gi bracket, while Helena Crevar won a phenomenal four divisions. Crevar won both the super-heavyweight and the absolute gi divisions at the juvenile blue belt level on the first day, before returning on the second day to do the same in no gi.

There were plenty of big names competing in the adult black belt divisions of the IBJJF Austin Summer Open 2024 as well, with Richar Nogueira making an appearance on both days. He won a gold medal in the no gi lightweight division but had to settle for a silver medal in the gi division, while Vitoria Assis was able to leave with two gold medals from the gi and no gi lightweight divisions. She won the no gi title by default as she had nobody in her bracket, but she had to beat fellow top competitor Brenda Wunner in order to win the gi division.

Some competitors chose to stick with one discipline only though, as is always the case. Thiago Macedo won a gold medal in the gi featherweight division, while Carlos Henrique stood on top of the super-heavyweight podium. Some more big names appeared in the no gi divisions on the second day, particularly in the women’s heavyweight division where Erin Harpe was the champion. Austin Oranday was also in attendance and although he made a run at two divisions, he had to settle for one gold medal. He won the absolute division but lost the only match in the medium-heavyweight division and left with a default silver medal there.
