The ADCC Chicago Open 2024 took place on September 28th, 2024 and there were quite a highlight-reel moments throughout the event. With talented grapplers competing in every weight class, there was always bound to be some slick submission finishes and tough matches. The most impressive performance of the day undoubtedly came from young brown belt prospect Jett Thompson, as he was able to come away with two gold medals. Thompson won the under 76kg division with three submissions and a points win before also winning the absolute, defeating both the under and over 100kg champions along his way to a second gold medal.
Over 100kg champion Nick Hartman ended up settling for a silver medal behind Thompson in the absolute, while under 100kg winner Abraham La Montagne stood in third place on the podium. The women’s divisions were just as exciting too, and Mona Bailey was the double champion after going 5-0 in the under 60kg and absolute divisions combined. Another notable performance there came from Ryley Boyle, the teenage blue belt who won gold in the under 65kg division at intermediate and advanced before getting silver in the absolute. Boyle went 6-1 with 6 submissions across those three brackets and her only loss came to Bailey, demonstrating that she will be one to watch over the next few years.
