The ADCC Miami Open 2024 took place on November 9th, 2024 and the tournament attracted some serious talent, including several ADCC veterans. There was one man in particular who stood out, and not just because he was able to come away with two gold medals. Dorian Olivarez might have gone out in the opening round of ADCC 2024, but he’s still an incredible grappler with a huge amount of potential for the future. He was able to show that in Miami as he submitted all three of his opponents in the under 70kg division and even won the absolute despite being the smaller man in every single match.
Amanda ‘Tubby’ Alequin was another ADCC veteran who put on a great performance, winning gold at under 55kg and even beating the under 65kg champion Shye Lilly in the final. She couldn’t replicate Olivarez’s success as the smaller woman in the absolute though, and she settled for a bronze medal behind the champion Leilani Bernales. There were some great matchups taking place in the other weight classes too, with the finals producing quite a few clashes between elite competitors. John Combs beat Lucas Brito for gold at under 83kg, while Matheus Lutes emerged victorious in a tough match with Sean Yadimarco to win the under 91kg division.
